JOE GORMAN HAS BEEN APPOINTED THE TOM BROCK SCHOLAR FOR 2019
Congratulations to Joe Gorman, who has been awarded the Tom Brock Scholarship for 2019. Joe is an author and PhD student with a keen interest in both rugby league and soccer. Joe believes that in the histories of Australian sport, rugby league is the forgotten game, and that Queensland is the forgotten state. Little to no attention has been paid to the wider social and cultural implications of rugby league in Queensland, and the role that the game has played in nurturing Queensland’s sense of self. Joe addresses this in his scholarship project, ‘A Sense of Belonging: How Rugby League Explains Queensland’.
