The 25th Annual Tom Brock Lecture: A Tribute to Ian Heads

The 25th annual Tom Brock Lecture will be held at Petersham RSL on Wednesday 11 September.

Standing on the shoulders of giants: A tribute to Ian Heads

The late Ian Heads was once described by Roy and HG as “The Emeritus Professor of rugby league history”. Over a career that spanned more than half a century Ian Heads covered all the great moments of the game and did so in a style that won him universal respect from players, officials, his peers and the army of fans who savoured his words.

Although he was a great journalist and author, he was also a father, mate and mentor who helped many young writers on their journey and inspired a generation of league historians.

To acknowledge, discuss and celebrate the life and legacy of Ian Heads the Tom Brock Bequest Committee has assembled a panel of eminently qualified people for this year’s event:

Phillip Heads: Ian’s son and a former Sports Editor with the Sunday Telegraph now Media Officer for the Sydney Cricket Ground and Venues NSW

Geoff Armstrong: Renowned author and editor of many sports books, many done in conjunction with Ian over several decades.

David Middleton: The game’s official statistician and an acclaimed author and historian in his own right.

John Smailes: Eminent motor racing journalist, author and broadcaster, as well as a cousin of Ian Heads

Wednesday September 11 at Petersham RSL club.

6.00pm for 6.30 start.

Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the event.
